A service provided by Jon Munsey of Computer Forensics Online Limited - Established 2008
Company Number: 06487033 VAT Number: GB929441701
We are a member of the Association of British Investigators, an independent organisation that requires all members to undergo a series of in-depth checks and background vetting before being granted membership.
These checks include;
Don't get scammed by paying money to an unheard of company that promises a cheap guaranteed recovery - it does not exist!
We are also not "billy" at work who can get your data back, nor are we "Delbert" from the local computer shop who can do this for you on the cheap!
Well, if you have made it this far, you have probably been to many sites that promise you the earth and
don't actually tell you that much about how your
data could be recovered, or who will be doing it.
Did you know that Google is littered with scammers who have set themselves up with a website, offer
data recovery at bargain prices and steal banking,
password and other personal data (such as
photographs and videos) from your phone when you send it to them. Yes, those sensitive passwords are actually stored on your phone.
There are also many cheap £20 software packages that can be downloaded (ours costs £7000!), which
promise to recover deleted messages, some of
which upload sensitive data to scammers in far away countries - leading to identity theft, banking fraud
and potentially holding you to ransom over
photographs, messages or website visits on your
phone that perhaps you do not want to become
public.
There are none of these risks when using Computer Forensics Online Limited, we are a British company
that has been providing recovery services for over 14 years and its ex-police expert Mr Jon Munsey has
over 17 years experience in digital forensics.
Your phone will be examined in our laboratory, will
be stored securely in our evidence store and once
the matter is complete, all data stored will be
permanently erased forever.
The first thing to understand is what can be recovered, take a look at the screenshot on the right - this is taken directly from our forensic recovery software - here you can see a typical iPhone that we are recovering data from.
There are two numbers usually following each category on the list, a green and a red.
GREEN is the total number of non-deleted items that have been captured and RED is the number of deleted items.
The list here is not exhaustive, we support recovery from hundreds of apps!
Now you know about the RED and GREEN numbers, lets look at another iPhone and dig into recovering deleted data.
This one has 392 deleted Apple (SMS) text messages that are potentially recoverable.
We can also see that there are 124 E-Mail messages that have been deleted and are potentially recoverable.
There are also 353 website visits, from the Safari browser, which have been deleted and are potentially recoverable.
We see 4 Phonebook contacts are potentially recoverable, and so on.
The list of apps that data can be potentially recovered from is vast, use our contact form at the bottom of this page to enquire about any specific app or data type you want to recover.
We use the word "potential" a lot on this website, because as I will show you, recovered data can often be corrupted, damaged or incomplete. This is the part that other vendors and software sellers don't tell you - they show screenshots of many items recovered - but not everything identified as deleted is of any use!
What does that mean ?
As we are dealing with data that was never meant to be resurrected, it is understandable that some or all of the data you seek may actually be lost for good - but you never know unless you attempt recovery !
Let us look at two recoveries, one fully successful and one only partially;
Above the (sanitised) image shows a successful recovery of deleted Contacts from the phones phone book. The deleted entries are marked by the small blue trashcan icons. Its not always like this, but on this occasion a good result!
Above the image shows a WhatsApp deleted message recovery attempt. The four RED circles show items that have been partially recovered, the GREEN circle shows a complete recovery. So that is 4 deleted items that don't contain any useful information and one item that contains a deleted photograph.
One very powerful tool that can be created from the data stored upon a phone is the timeline.
The timeline is not included in the Budget DIY package, for this you will need to purchase a Standard or Legal/Corporate package.
This is a minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day chronologically (date) ordered list of what a user of
the phone has been doing.
All activity from all apps on the phone is combined,
to look something like this;
13/05/2020 15:24:26 Visit www.ebay.com
13/05/2020 15:24:39 WhatsApp Message "hi"
13/05/2020 15:25:00 Incoming Call "susan"
13/05/2020 15:27:10 SMS sent "hello" to "Brian"
13/05/2020 15:28:18 Visited dating website
13/05/2020 15:29:00 Deleted visit to dating website
13/05/2020 15:29:20 Deleted message from "susan"
Customers often find that there are items or events on there phone that help their case or investigation -
that they had forgotten about, reducing the reliance on deleted material.
The timeline often reaches back YEARS, sometimes as far back as to when the phone was first used!
You will need to send your device to us (at your own risk!), this can be via Royal Mail Special Delivery (around £15 + VAT with insurance) or you can use our pickup and direct delivery service (£85 - £500 + VAT) depending on your location).
It is possible to deliver your phone to our laboratory in Lowestoft, Suffolk - by appointment only.
We use our forensic software to make a copy of the data contained within your phone or cloud backup, we then process the data and extract any deleted (or other) material you are attempting to locate.
This is dependant on the package you choose, Budget packages only include one data type (such as text messages only) and the Standard package includes all deleted data from the phone and the timeline.
Once the data has been extracted from your phone, it is returned to you by the shipping method you choose and the data that is recovered or required is uploaded to the cloud, where you can download it and view it on your own computer.
If your package includes a report, we will complete this and provide you with an electronic copy to view on your own computer system. You will need Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to view the output, printing is available at an additional cost, but is not recommended.
There is a small chance that your phone may be irrepairabley damaged during the procedure, whilst this is rare, it does happen - and as we are as up front as possible, we notify you of this before we start work (its in the terms and conditions you will need to sign).
What does rare mean ? In the 97 phones we have processed this year, 2 have failed during the recovery process, rendering the phone useless and the deleted data (and all other data) contained on it lost for ever.
We do however attempt to make a backup copy of your phone before we start, in order to minimise data loss, if your phone does fail during the procedure - however this is not a catch all and data can still be lost even when a backup is made.
There are also certain conditions which cause instant messaging services (such as WhatsApp) to delete all data when an account is accessed. These conditions usually occur when an account has become dormant and not been accessed for a number of months.
IMPORTANT: This service is NOT a "no recovery - no fee" arrangement, fees are payable if no data is recovered.
This is our budget package for data recovery and is designed for members of the public that need to recover a single data type, such as WhatsApp messages or photographs - for sentimental or other personal reasons that don't involve employment or legal matters.
Recovered deleted data is uploaded to the cloud in a spreadsheet for you to download and view without assistance from our expert - a report is also not included with DIY package but can be purchased if required.
This package includes a SINGLE recovery, for example, WhatsApp messages OR Text messages OR Photographs.
£350 + VAT @ 20%
This is our standard DIY package for recovery and in addition to the Budget package, includes a timeline of all events that the phone currently holds.
See the timeline section of the website further down the page to see how this may help you.
A report is not produced for DIY packages but can be purchased at an additional fee.
This package includes all deleted data from a device, so that's all messages (any kind), all photos, all text messages, etc..
£750 + VAT @ 20%
Business and Legal recovery is a fully assisted forensic recovery process, which is required should the reason you need the data recovered involve either a civil or criminal court of law, or an employment tribunal.
This enhanced package utilises full evidential continuity, contemporaneous notes and in addition a court admissible expert report is provided with this package.
This package also includes 4 hours of expert time, meaning our expert will search data stored on the phone to identify messages or other information that your case may rely upon.
£1500 + VAT @ 20%
Most mobile telephones sync all of their data to the cloud in one form or another, be that the iCloud for Apple devices, the Samsung Cloud for its devices and a myriad of others including Google Drive for most other Android phones.
Quite often we locate data that is stored within a phone-backup on the cloud, which is not present on the phone itself, meaning the cloud is quite a valuable source of potential evidence.
Cloud backups are a rich source of instant messages (such as WhatsApp, Viber and others) which can be used when no deleted messages are recoverable from an actual phone handset.
We offer a recovery service for these platforms in addition to our packages listed above, prices vary so get in touch to find out more!
£350 to £1500 + VAT @ 20%
Most mobile telephones come with software that allows you to make an "old fashioned" backup to a computer or laptop hard drive, simply by connecting the phone to the computer via a USB cable.
If you have used or think the owner of the phone that you are trying to recover data from has backed up the phones contents in this way, you have a potential source to recover data from.
For example, if an iPhone has been plugged into an Apple Mac computer, or a Windows computer with iTunes installed, then it is highly likely that a backup of the phone exists on that computer from which messages, photographs and other data can be recovered.
We offer a recovery service for these platforms, prices vary so get in touch to find out more!

YES and NO, please contact us to discuss this as it varies from case to case.

We work using the latest forensic software, "Oxygen Forensic Detective" costing £7000! and do this on a daily basis for the law-courts, lawyers and corporate businesses - you are paying for the piece of mind that the work will be done properly and that you information won't be stolen, sold or used for identity theft purposes. Equally as important, any data you recover yourself will not stand up in court against accusations that you have tampered with it, nor will it comply with the courts requirement that data is collected in a forensically sound manner by a digital forensics expert - why ? You are not a court recognised expert - I am!

9. Is my data going to be wiped after you have completed the recovery.
YES, after a 3 month retention period, your data is wiped. If you require the data to be wiped immediately, that is also possible.
10. How fast can I get my phone back ?
Usually we will ship your phone back to you within 48 hours of receipt, so phones arriving Monday morning by noon are usually shipped back the same day or Tuesday, arriving back with you on Wednesday. This is not a guaranteed turnaround time, if you have any special requirements, please let us know before you send the phone to us.
11. I can't afford to purchase the package I need, can I pay in instalments ?
YES, you can pay for any of our services spread over a period of 3 months with no interest payable and no contract to sign. Once you have paid in full, by instalments you can ship your phone to us for analysis.
